Yumiko Daimio, more commonly known as "the Crimson Lotus," was a Japanese spy and war criminal active in the 1930s and '40s. She is the grandmother of former B.P.R.D. team commander, Captain Ben Daimio.

History[edit | edit source]

The Crimson Lotus came into conflict with the Lobster in New York City while committing a series of assassinations on the Chinese tongs in an effort to sabotage their financial support for the Kuomintang and their struggles against Imperial Japan in the aftermath of the Mukden Incident. Her battle with the Lobster resulted with her photographically exposed to the public. One of her Noh monkeys was shot by the Lobster and recovered by the police until it was turn over to federal authorities in which it was stored in the future site of the B.P.R.D. headquarters in Colorado.[1]

During World War II, the Crimson Lotus was considered a legend and was responsible for the capture of hundreds of American troops and torturing them to death. By the end of the war, the Lotus was captured and put on trial for war crimes committed between 1942 and 1945.

Her son was born shortly before Japan entered into alliance with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy and he was raised by her sister while the Lotus was in the Emperor's service. By 1946, when the Lotus was on trial, her son and sister had moved to California and the boy was raised in Concord. He would go on to serve in the U.S. military and was married twice. It was with his second wife that he would father Ben Daimio.

By the modern day, Johann Kraus came across a scrapbook containing paranormal related information to World War II, which included a picture of the Crimson Lotus.[2] Kraus brings up her criminal history and familial relationship to Ben Daimio, who insisted that she was a normal woman who practiced witchcraft learned from books.[3]

Abilities[edit | edit source]

The Crimson Lotus is an assassin and witch. She is capable of using magic that can absorb the explosion of a grenade. Bullets also pass through her as she seemingly fades away in a cloud of smoke to escape. She is seen utilizing several Noh monkeys to carry out tasks for her, including assassinations and robbery.
