Hellboy: An Assortment of Horrors is the fourth anthology collecting non-chronological short stories written for the Hellboy novel series, based on the comic book series by Mike Mignola, who provided cover illustrations for each story.

The Promised Smile[]

Hellboy and a rookie agent Casper Morrow are sent by Cleveland Malak, the spoiled son of a Malaysian millionaire, to rescue his wife, Aidra, from a remote island, after she was abducted by a kichiimul (a Katamais witch) who has taken her mouth.

Note: This is the first of two stories in this collection that is canon.[1] The events of this story are later referenced in B.P.R.D.: The Devil You Know—Pandemonium #2.

When Doves Cry[]

The Other Side of Summer[]

Fairfield, Connecticut, 1950: While browsing through a local bookshop - one of the few occasions when he is allowed outside the B.P.R.D.'s new headquarters - the 7-year-old Hellboy befriends a girl who shares his passion for mysteries and superhero comics, and the two team up to investigate a farm rumored to be haunted.
