Publication History[edit | edit source]

Born Again was originally published as part of Hellboy Premiere Edition in March 2004. The issue, an exclusive published through Wizard magazine #148, also contained the Hellboy story The Penanggalan. The issue was published with three covers, one by Mike Mignola showing an image from The Penanggalan, one by Guy Davis showing the members of the B.P.R.D. and Hellboy, and a cover (exclusive to Wizard World in Los Angeles) showing a picture of Ron Perlman as Hellboy.

Born Again was collected as the prologue in the trade paperback B.P.R.D.: The Dead in September 2005.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Elizabeth Sherman, Abe Sapien, Roger and Johann Kraus break their way into a cavern under a suburb of Chicago. Inside they find the skeleton of a large dinosaur like creature. Johann sends some of his ectoplasm into he bones. The creature says it was killed by Shonchin. Now that its body and spirit are reconnected it overpowers Johann. Unable to stop it, Liz is forced to burn the creature. Johann, back in control, is able to reform himself and re inhabit his containment suit. Johann speculates that Shonchin must have been a shaman that defeated the creature long ago. Roger finds a Spiked Cylinder in the cave and takes it with him.
