The Bog Roosh is the oldest underwater/mermaid witch of all. From the depths of the sea and she is the main antagonist in Hellboy: The Third Wish. She is said to be the oldest of all sea witches.

History[]

She was first seen in the story The Third Wish, where she says to her three 'granddaughters' that she will grant them a wish if they pierce a spike in the head of her enemy, Hellboy. The three mermaids capture Hellboy and take him to Bog Roosh. After she kills the two of her grandchildren, because of their wishes, she grants the third wish of the mermaid and tells her to leave. She describes to Hellboy her vision. His right hand taken and himself dead. She also says that the Hand will be used to free the Dragon, the Ogdru Jahad.

Hellboy says that he has listened to all that before and tries to punch her. Bog Roosh drops him in a hole in her cave where he remains for nearly twenty months. When he wakes, he finds himself in Davey Jones Locker, killing the sea cow (as pronounced by Gruagach) and freeing himself from his capture by the third mermaid who has now become the Bog Roosh. Hellboy says that they can leave now, but the little mermaid states that she cannot leave now that she is the new Bog Roosh. She frees Hellboy from the spike and lets him leave in the ocean. As she leaves the ghost of her father says that he will be with her even at the end of time.[1]

The newest incarnation of the Bog Roosh, true to her word, refused to take the souls of drowned men. However, her position of Bog Roosh has transformed her into a more hag-like creature. When one of the Ogdru Hem manifested on Earth, she sensed its presence and knew her time was coming.

Gustav Strobl entered her domain intruding with her conversation with the Sea King. She attempted to warn him to swim south to escape the impending doom of the world, but Gustav refused as he was seeking Abe Sapien and his powers led him to her. Both merfolk were unable to determine what Gustav was, but his ramblings of power, made the Bog Roosh dismiss him, warning him to leave or suffer her wrath. The mad occultist proceeded to claw her throat murdering her and banishing the Sea King from his presence.[2]

Personality[]

The Bog Roosh has shown little care for the lives of others, she doesnt seem concerned if her wishes may couse their clients demise as long as her promisses are fullfilled. This may also indicate an unsafe and treacherous side or simply treating it as just business.

She is very vengeful, traitorous, manipulative, uncompromising, opprobrious, and sadistic, when the last remaining sister helped Hellboy escape she decides to punish her by bringing her sisters corpses to torture and kill her for breaking her contract.

She is a very unhesitating and determined being doing anything in her power to capture Hellboy.

Powers & Abilities[]

Vast magical powers: The Bog Roosh was a powerful sea witch that rivaled Hecate, who was regarded as the Queen of the Witches, and claimed to be beyond the Baba Yaga. Her accumulated power was attributed to the trapped souls of men who died at sea. She was clairvoyant able to see the End of the World, and also able to grant wishes, such as transformation, summoning, and necromancy.

Granting wishes: While the extent of her powers arent shown completly, she has been seen to be able to grant wishes wich can do almost anything, but they must be well made or they might have terrible consequences.

Animal Control: She is also able to reanimate corpses that do her biding and she seems to have control over sea creatures too.

Power Item: She is also able to manipulate objects to create magic enhanced artifacts like the chains she made to restrain Hellboy.

Dream Manipulation: At some point its explained that she hs the ability to forsee the future in dreams, while her efficecy is not fully explained, though she claims to be very exact.

Weakneses[]

Even with all her power she has one main flaw, she is not able to abandon the cave she lives in, thus explaining why she needs to rely to others to get what she wants at some extent.

While her main abilities rely on magic, when confronted with physical damage she doesn't seem to show grate endurance since she was ultimately defeated by a spear, winch was held by Hellboy who wasn't aware of her when she attacked him, making her death a casualty.
